Volvo Cars 1st Ever Safety Driving Experience Comes To Malaysia

When you feel safe, you can truly be free. That’s Is the Volvo Cars way.

In 1959, Volvo Cars, in collaboration with Nils Bohlin, revolutionized vehicle safety by introducing the world’s single most important safety device—the three-point seatbelt. Not only did they pioneer this life-saving invention, but they also selflessly waived the patent rights, allowing other car manufacturers to adopt it. Over the years, Volvo has continued to lead the automotive safety frontier, introducing groundbreaking innovations that prioritize the well-being of drivers, passengers, and even those outside the vehicle.

Volvo’s Commitment to Safety Evolution

As the undisputed leader in automotive safety, Volvo Cars remains committed to pushing boundaries and setting new standards. The company envisions a future with zero collisions, identifying three key “gaps to zero” through technology and data on human behavior.

  1. Speeding: Volvo Cars has taken a bold step by capping the maximum speed of its cars to 180 km/h, addressing one of the major contributors to road fatalities.
  2. Intoxication: Recognizing the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, Volvo is actively working to develop safety features that detect signs of driver intoxication, aiming to prevent accidents caused by impaired driving.
  3. Distraction: In an era of increasing distractions, Volvo is tackling the issue of distracted driving head-on. The company is developing the Driver Understanding System, a two-camera safety feature that detects if the driver is distracted, sleepy, or intoxicated. This system activates a protective shield and takes appropriate countermeasures, ranging from visual and audible warnings to speed reduction and even bringing the vehicle to a complete stop at the side of the road.

Real Stories of Safety: Alvin Geoffrey Alphonso and Adrian Kuah

Volvo’s commitment to safety is not just a corporate vision; it’s a real-life experience for Volvo owners like Alvin Geoffrey Alphonso, CEO of Port Klang Cruise Terminal, and Adrian Kuah, a digital product manager.

Alvin, whose admiration for Volvo cars started in the early ’90s, emphasizes the importance of Volvo’s active safety features in his industry, where split-second decisions can prevent accidents. Lane departure warnings have been particularly crucial, ensuring his focus on the road remains intact.

Adrian, a Volvo XC40 Recharge owner, speaks to the transformative effect of Volvo’s semi-autonomous functionality. The Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) has turned driving into a more enjoyable and safe experience, with features like object detection while reversing and automatic braking.

Volvo Safety Driving Experience

To empower both Volvo car owners and non-owners with firsthand experience of Volvo’s safety innovations, Volvo Car Malaysia is hosting the inaugural Volvo Safety Driving Experience at the iconic Sungai Best Airport on March 2nd and 3rd, 2024.
