1st Ever Isuzu D-Max BEV Showed In Bangkok, Will Be Launched In 2025

The Isuzu D-Max Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) has debuted in Thailand and will go into production.

Isuzu may have left the passenger car market behind, but it’s charging ahead of its Japanese peers when it comes to battery electric vehicle development. The company just unveiled its first BEV concept based on the D-Max one-ton pick-up truck and it looks just about ready for production.

The D-Max BEV Concept was developed to take on a wide array of commercial and passenger vehicle needs without compromising on its tough pick-up truck underpinnings. It still features all-wheel drive, but this time the 4WD system relies on a set of newly-developed e-Axles at the front and rear of the car. These e-Axles reduce noise and vibration while lending the D-MAX BEV a high towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes, integrating 2 electric motors to retain similar power output as the diesel D-MAX.

In terms of total output, Isuzu are targeting around 177PS and 325Nm of torque. For context, the 1.9L 4-cylinder turbo diesel in the current D-MAX has an output of 150PS and 350Nm of torque while the 3.0L 4-cylinder turbo diesel has an output of 190PS and 450Nm of torque. Range and charging speed were not shared, but the battery will be a 66.9kWh lithium-ion and there will be a max speed of 130km/h at least.

In terms of styling, the D-MAX BEV has some distinguishing features, such as a largely closed-off front grille with small vent holes, some black and blue grille trim pieces, and a new design for the headlights. There are also some minor EV-specific decals on the side of the truck bed.

For now, the D-MAX BEV is being targeted at markets where there is a much bigger demand for electric vehicles. Mainland Europe, the UK, Australia and Scandanavia were named as potential export destinations for this D-MAX BEV but sales will also begin in Thailand itself.
