We’d Love To See the Kia EV6 Facelift In Malaysia

The Kia EV6 underwent a global facelift earlier this year, but there’s no telling if it’s coming here.

Back in 2022, when Bermaz had just secured distributorship of Kia in Malaysia, one of the first EVs they brought in was the Kia EV6. While it was an interesting, fast, well-equipped, well-specced EV with the right range and charging speed, its pricing ultimately hampered its sales performance. It was priced at over RM300,000 and that was more expensive than any Tesla or BYD product ever offered in Malaysia. Today, the Kia EV6 is still listed on the local website but it’s doubtful if the vehicle is being pushed hard or brought in in large numbers.

Globally though, the EV6 has been soldiering on with decent reception worldwide. It went through a pretty significant facelift recently and we wondered if this facelift would make its way to Malaysia at all. The new model is said to be more dynamic and refined than before with a new exterior design, battery pack and more power.

At its core, the new EV6 GT is powered by an 84kWh fourth-generation battery—8.5% larger than before—offering up to 449km of range (WLTP) and improved charging performance. Thanks to its 800V architecture and 258kW peak charging rate, the battery can recharge from 10–80% in just 18 minutes.

Performance is notably improved. The dual-motor AWD system now delivers 641bhp and 770Nm, allowing 0–62mph in 3.5 seconds and a 161mph top speed. It introduces Virtual Gear Shift tech, simulating a six-speed gearbox for added engagement with tactile, audible, and visual cues. A refined GT mode, activated by a neon green steering wheel button, sharpens responsiveness and transforms the instrument display.

Kia also reworked the chassis, retuning spring rates and dampers for better comfort and control. NVH levels have been reduced with more sound-deadening materials, new tyres, and AI-powered motor noise cancellation, while improved aerodynamics further reduce cabin noise.

The exterior gets a refreshed “Modern Contrast” design with a bold LED light signature and 21-inch GT wheels. Inside, the GT features new artificial suede bucket seats, a redesigned steering wheel, ambient lighting, and fingerprint recognition. Practicality remains strong with 480L of boot space, folding rear seats, and a rear seat angle redesign for improved comfort.

Other highlights include wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, V2L capability, Kia’s new ccNC infotainment system with over-the-air updates, and a GT-specific performance timer.
