Dunlop tyres is staging a major brand “reset” and revitalisation in Malaysia
Did you know that Dunlop tyres have been on sale in Malaysia since the 1960s but the brand’s local presence had faded into the background over the last few decades due to licensing structures and limited marketing. As of January 2026, Sumitomo Rubber Industries (SRI) (the new owners) officially reclaimed the exclusive Dunlop trademark rights in the region (which were previously sub-licensed to Continental tyres), handing exclusive local distribution over to Toyotsu Binter Malaysia (TBM).

Here is exactly what they have to say about this new chapter, their focus on electric vehicles (EVs), and their plans to win back Malaysian drivers.
This isn’t just a marketing campaign; Dunlop is overhauling its distribution, retail network and product lineup to align with the modern Malaysian automotive landscape which includes the large number of 4×4 owners in the country who have trusted the brand for decades with the Dunlop RoadTrekker RT5 and Dunlop MaxGrip AT5 tyres.

1. Rebuilding the Dealer Network
TBM is actively partnering with over 190 authorized wholesalers and dealers across Peninsular Malaysia, with plans to expand to East Malaysia and eventually launch specialised, dedicated Dunlop retail concepts.
2. Doubling Down on EVs
With EV adoption rising fast in Malaysia, Dunlop is positioning itself as a primary player in the electric vehicle segment. EV tyres require specialised designs to handle heavier battery weights, instant electric motor torque, and to keep cabin noise low. Alongside the Blue Response TG, Dunlop’s local EV-ready catalog now features:
- Sport Maxx Lux
- SP Sport Maxx 060+
- e.Sport Maxx (featuring Silent Core Technology to actively dampen cabin road noise)

3. Securing Factory-Fit (OEM) Contracts
Rather than just fighting in the replacement market, Dunlop is successfully getting their tyres fitted directly on new cars at the factory. You will now see Dunlop tyres as original equipment on selected new models from Toyota, Lexus, Isuzu, Mazda, and new Chinese automotive brands.
Under the new distribution by Toyotsu Binter Malaysia (TBM), Dunlop has modernized its warranty structure to provide drivers with better peace of mind, introducing digital tracking and specific road hazard policies.

12-Month Road Hazard Warranty (Premium Models)
Malaysia’s roads are notorious for unexpected potholes and debris. To address this, Toyotsu Binter offers a 12-Month Road Hazard Warranty on select premium Dunlop tyre models.
- What it covers: Irreparable damage caused by road hazards, such as severe punctures, sidewall cuts, or impact damage from potholes.
- How it works: If you encounter a road hazard, do not drive on the flat tyre (as this ruins the internal structure). Take it to an authorized dealer. If the tyre is deemed unrepairable, Toyotsu Binter will assist with a pro-rated replacement based on your remaining tyre tread.
- Note: Terms and conditions apply, and this is typically limited to premium and EV-ready tyre models purchased through authorized dealers.

Meanwhile, the 2 wheeler segment in Malaysia is where Dunlop will be tackling next with on going discussions right now. More will be shared soon.
