Why Have You NOT Test Driven This Dongfeng 007 Yet

If you are looking to buy a performance electric car, you should take this Dongfeng 007 for a spin …… and here is why.

The Dongfeng 007 is an all-electric fastback sedan that resembles a high-performance, low-slung supercar with European heritage. It features a coupe-like roofline, frameless doors, flush pop-out handles and an aggressive stance from all angles.

Its projection headlamps, slippery shape, slim tail-lights large dual tone alloy wheels and rear spoiler give it a futuristic, sporty edge that has generated significant buzz for offering high-end, supercar-like performance and luxury tech at a highly competitive price point, undercutting established segment rivals like the BYD Seal and Tesla Model 3.

From the time your get comfortable in the drivers well-bolstered seat and stick the gearshift (siting behind the steering wheel) into ‘DRIVE’ , this 007 delivers swift, linear power and a highly comfortable, stable ride that absorbs our Klang Valley road imperfections effortlessly.

While cornering fast on our uneven roads might be just a little un-settling, it is still far batter than some rivals costing 50 percent or so more and this 007 excels as a refined, long-distance urban cruiser. Yes, heavy electric cars do not like uneven tarmac as we have experienced with more than 40 different models tested. Only a small handful like this 007 handles like a petrol/diesel powered sport sedan.

Why the Dongfeng 007 is Gaining Traction

This is the top-spec dual-motor AWD Prime model we are test driving here and it produces 536 hp (544 PS) and 620 Nm of torque, rocketing the car from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds.

The 007 boasts an outstanding drag coefficient of 0.209 Cd, outperforming competitors like the Tesla Model 3. This improves the 007 driving efficiency and battery range.

Both battery variants utilise a 73.48 kWh LFP battery capable of 200 kW DC fast charging, allowing you to get from 30% to 80% in as fast as 11 minutes or to 80% in about 16–26 minutes, depending on the variant. It also features 6.6–7 kW AC charging for home top-ups and a V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) function. This 007 utilises an advanced battery temperature control system equipped with a high-efficiency heat pump to maintain optimal charging speeds.

Because of its sleek, aerodynamic fastback design the Premium (RWD) offers an urban driving range of up to 650 km (CLTC). The performance (AWD) offers a driving range of up to 565 km (CLTC).

The Dongfeng 007 cabin prioritises a minimalist, driver-centric design

Key features include “Combat Mode” which comes after “Sport Mode”, a 15.6-inch central touchscreen powered by a Snapdragon 8155 chip, the drivers headrest speakers, impressive rear passenger room and a Qi wireless charging pad.

The interior is well equipped to provide both comfort and technology. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, paired with a 19-speaker WANOS Premium surround sound system and this includes a drivers headrest audio unit which rivals are missing.

Vegan/faux leather upholstery, with power-adjustable, ventilated front seats that include memory settings come as standard and the front electric seats are well bolstered offering good thigh and neck support.

There is an expansive panoramic glass roof, 64-color ambient lighting and automatic climate control system with rear A/C vents.

The Dongfeng 007 is a D-segment fully electric fastback sedan measuring 4,880mm (L) x 1,895mm (W) x 1,465mm (H) with a 2,915mm wheelbase. It offers a practical 452-litre boot (expandable to over 1,026 liters with the rear seats folded), comfortably seating five passengers in a sleek, spacious cabin.

In the Malaysian market, the sedan ranges between RM161,000 and RM188,000 (after launch rebates), and the vehicle comes with a 6-year/unlimited-mileage warranty and an 8-year/unlimited-mileage battery and motor warranty.

It is undercutting and competes head-to-head with the BYD Seal (starting around RM171,800) and the Tesla Model 3 (starting near RM169,000). These cars share very similar dimensions, performance figures, and price brackets but this 007 offers more space and a better drive dynamics on our roads. Take it for a test drive in Petaling Jaya roads to appreciate it handling.
