While most accidents are fatal, this nurse was lucky to survive this fire
While most accidents tend to be fatal or downright tragic, in a very welcome change of pace, a 39-year-old nurse experienced a terrifying ordeal early Saturday morning when the car she was driving suddenly caught fire along the ELITE Highway near Putra Heights which she, thankfully, survived. Let’s hope more accidents turn out like this.
The incident took place at Kilometer 10.5 of the North-South Highway Hubungan Tengah (ELITE), towards USJ. The nurse in a Ford Fiesta, was driving when the vehicle reportedly began emitting smoke and quickly caught fire. Thanks to her quick thinking and calm response, she was able to exit the vehicle safely before the flames engulfed most of the car.
Moreover, according to Assistant Director of the Operations Division of the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, the department received an emergency distress call at 6.44 am. In response, a team of six firefighters and one fire engine from the Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Station was immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, the team found the car already consumed by flames, with approximately 70 percent of the vehicle destroyed. Firefighters quickly got the blaze under control to prevent it from spreading or causing further hazards to nearby traffic. Despite the severity of the fire, the nurse escaped without injury.
On top of that, luckily no other vehicles were involved in the incident, and there were no reports of traffic delays or secondary accidents due to the fire. Ahmad Mukhlis praised the swift response of the Subang Jaya fire crew and highlighted the importance of motorists being vigilant for signs of mechanical issues that could lead to fires.
He also reminded drivers to ensure their vehicles are properly maintained and to react quickly but calmly in emergencies. The cause of the fire has yet to be officially determined and investigations are ongoing. While no accidents or fires are welcome, we certainly hope more of them turn out like this with no fatalities to report.
This incident serves as a sobering reminder of the unpredictable nature of road travel and the importance of remaining alert. Thanks to her composure, the nurse managed to avoid what could have been a tragic accident. Authorities continue to urge the public to contact emergency services immediately in the event of any road-related danger.
