Best Time To Buy A Peugeot 2008 Which Is Lower Than A TRAZ & X50

Peugeot 2008 selling price is too low right now to ignore

Yes, can you imagine this, a brand new Peugeot 2008 (continental vehicle) priced at around the same as the just launched Perodua TRAZ (RM76,000 to RM82,000) and also very close to the recently launched latest model Proton X50 which is priced without insurance are RM89,800 for the Executive, RM101,800 for the Premium and RM113,300 for the Flagship variant, respectively.

This Proton X50 is powered by a new i-GT 1.5 TD engine mated to a 7-speed DCT gearbox it delivers 181PS and 290Nm of torque and can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 7.6 seconds while delivering a claimed 4.7% improvement in efficiency from its new engine. It has an upgraded ADAS Level 2 technology, an upgraded IHU system with a large 14.6-inch screen, and for the first time ever, Bahasa Melayu voice recognition and more.

Meanwhile, the Perodua Traz is powered by a 1.5L 2NR-VE 4-cylinder engine with double overhead cams and electronic fuel injection. Power output is 105hp and 138Nm of torque and it’s paired to the now-familiar D-CVT to power the front wheels enabling a claimed fuel efficiency of 21.3km/L. The Traz comes with a comprehensive suite of Advanced Safety Assist (A.S.A.) features, including Pre-Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Pedal Misoperation Control. However, the H variant offers superior parking and visibility assistance by including a 360° Panoramic View Monitor.

Now, If you want to sample what the French brand is really capable of, you need to try out the Puretech motor. Its a 1.2L DOHC turbocharged engine that delivers 128bhp and 230Nm of torque and works with a 6-speed auto gearbox.

Inside the cabin you get wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto covers infotainment through a 7″ touchscreen and is more than adequate in this segment, but only a reverse camera is present here. That being said, Peugeot’s interface for the reverse camera actually creates a top-down composite image based on what the video feed captures, which is pretty interesting. The only real complaint in the cabin is that climate controls are buried in a submenu.

Also, the Peugeot 2008 makes few compromises. It gets 6 airbags as standard and its Advanced Driver Assist Systems cover Autonomous Braking and Lane Keeping for peace of mind. What’s more, there’s a seatbelt reminder system wired to each and every seat in the vehicle. Well, there is no ‘voice recognition’ to talk to and no large screen which many drivers want …… we wonder why it has become so very important when smartphones already have large screens.

Now, at its launch (exactly 4 years ago on January 2022) it was priced at RM126,753 and today it can be yours at RM89,888 from all long running Peugeot dealers in Malaysia or you can save yourself a hefty RM10k by visiting selected Cycle&Carriage showrooms in Malaysia and buy this 2008 for just RM79,888!

Yes at just RM79,888 you take home a European compact SUV against taking home a Malaysian branded compact SUV. The final decision is yours and we wonder why there is a RM10k price difference between the two Peugeot sales dealerships in Malaysia …….. anyway its great value for buyers right now.
