BMW xDrive40 electric SUV went from RM361,430 to RM163,800
In August 2021, BMW Malaysia started taking bookings for the all electric SUV, the iX. Demand was high and surprisingly, BMW managed to import in a high number of units despite global logistics and parts issues. Malaysians loved its large and imposing look and it was a premium electric SUV.
Within months, the iX could be seen in affluent neighborhoods and high end shopping areas. Yes, the premium BMW buyer wanted one and dealers were able to deliver.
Four variants of the BMW iX were available to Malaysian buyers:
iX xDrive40 – RM419,630
iX xDrive40 with Power Package – RM424,230
iX xDrive40 Sport – RM472,630
iX xDrive40 Sport with Power Package – RM477,230
At launch, the standard xDrive40 was priced at RM419,630, while the xDrive40 Sport was RM472,630.
Then there was good news. Tax-free adjustments in 2022 reduced the prices of the xDrive40 to be starting around RM361,430. This jumped its booking numbers and soon after it was a best seller for BMW Malaysia.
Did you know that the xDrive40 is powered by a 76.6 kWh battery (71 kWh usable), enabling a 0-100 km/h time of 6.1 seconds.
It supports up to 11 kW AC charging (approx. 7 hours for a full charge) and 150 kW DC fast charging (10-80% in 31 minutes).
The 2024 update saw the xDrive40 dropped, focusing on the xDrive50 Sport and M60 variants. By early 2025, a new face-lifted lineup was introduced.
The vehicle when new came with a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty and an 8-year/160,000 km battery warranty.
Now, just about 3 years later we see used units of the first generation model in our used car market and if you want to try to live with a premium electric vehicle …… you should be looking at this high depreciated BMW. Yes, at just RM163,800 before negotiations, the first owner has taken a RM200,000 depreciation hit and thats more than 60 percent in 3 years.
With its factory warranty still active ……. you can continue to live with this premium EV and at the worst be hit with a possible RM100k depreciation in the coming 3-4 years. Remember, its has a 8 years or 160,000km warranty. The service package is for 6 years or 120,000.
