The Nissan Kicks e-POWER could be our next police patrol car.
Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd (ETCM), the sole distributor of Nissan vehicles in Malaysia, has officially handed over two units of the Nissan Kicks e-POWER to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

The vehicles will undergo a two-month Proof of Concept (POC) evaluation programme without financial or procurement obligations. Conducted under real-world operational conditions, the trial will assess the hybrid crossover’s efficiency, performance, and operational practicality for police frontline duties.
Real-World Testing for Frontline Readiness
The evaluation programme allows PDRM’s Logistics and Technology Department to test the adaptability of electrified vehicles across high-mileage urban patrols, rapid incident response, and continuous duty cycles.

How Nissan e-POWER Drivetrain Technology Works
Unlike conventional parallel hybrid systems, Nissan’s e-POWER architecture relies on a 100% electric motor drive to propel the front wheels:
- Electric Drive Motor: Delivers instantaneous torque and linear acceleration directly to the wheels, producing 129 PS (95 kW) and 280 Nm of torque.
- 1.2L ICE Generator: A 1.2-liter HR12DE 3-cylinder petrol engine acts purely as an onboard power generator to keep the 2.06 kWh lithium-ion battery charged.
- Zero Range Anxiety: The wheels are never mechanically connected to the petrol engine. Drivers experience the quiet, instant response of a battery-electric vehicle (BEV) while refueling normally at standard petrol stations.

The trial results will form part of PDRM’s broader fleet evaluation strategy as government agencies explore low-emission vehicle alternatives for municipal and law enforcement applications.
