Lamborghini Urus Postponed To 2017

Lamborghini’s recently teased Urus concept car will not see the light of day until 2017, at the earliest. Lamborghini’s SUV concept, first displayed at the Beijing Motor Show earlier this year was the Italian automakers return into the world of SUV’s after almost 20 years. Feedback from potential buyers seemed to be relatively positive, begging the question why Lamborghini would put the car on the back burner. Strong competition from the likes of Porsche in the Cayenne and BMW/Mercedes may have had something to do with Lamborgihni CEO Stephan Winkelman’s decision.

Winkelman was quoted as saying, ”the Urus isn’t an immediate priority and won’t happen until 2017 at the earliest, if the board decides to sign it off.” He goes on to champion Lamborghini’s current models as “selling well”. According to Winkelman, Lambo has plenty of new cars available and has no need to bolster its line up with a brand new model. The decision to delay or disband the Urus project comes after we reported earlier this year that the Urus could double Lamborghini’s sales. Stephan Winkelman also hinted at upcoming light, faster versions of their newest supercar, the Aventador. We’ll keep you posted.
