TCR Asia Series; Craft-Bamboo leads Asian charge in Singapore

Craft-Bamboo Engineering’s Frank Yu has emerged as the leading TCR Asia Series competitor during round two of the 2015 season on the streets of Singapore as a part of the joint program with the TCR International Series.

It comes as perhaps no surprise given the Hong Kong driver’s association with the International Series – as both a part of the championship leading Craft-Bamboo LUKOIL Seat team, and a competitor in the opening round in March back at Sepang.

Yu missed the season-opening TCR Asia Series event two weeks ago due to his GT Asia Series commitments, but didn’t put a foot wrong in practice at Marina Bay to claim the top spot, impressively, just off the tail of the top ten drivers in the TCR International Series.

Ultimately the Interush supported driver was classified 12th outright in the 22-car field, his 2:31.872 topping the TCR Asia Series drivers ahead of Prince Racing’s Michael Choi in his Honda Civic TCR, and Yu’s former GT Asia Series team-mate Samson Chan in the first of the Roadstar Racing Seat Leóns.

Filipe de Souza showed great pace to take fourth late in the session, leap-frogging his Roadstar Racing team-mate George Chou who had set the pace on his TCR Asia Series debut in session one.

Kenneth Lau – who had shadowed Chou in P1 – was next in the second of the Prince Racing Hondas, ahead of FRD HKL Racing Team’s Kenneth Ma, the experienced veteran making his debut in Singapore in the Ford Focus TCR that Andy Yan impressed in during the opening round in Sepang.

Plagued by an intermittent electrical issue in Malaysia two weeks ago, Ma was hampered by teething issues in practice, but was confident he’d be in the mix again for qualifying.
