1Why has the Ford Focus RS been ignored?
Ford has just unveiled their latest-generation Focus. Meanwhile we are seeing a shrinking demand of the Focus in Malaysia and even worse, the disappearance of its hot RS version. The Focus RS is a hot hatch that has just four possible challengers in this country. Powering this Focus is a 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine which develops 350PS, which allows it to sprint from 0-100km/h in a sizzling 4.7 seconds. This means only the all new Honda Civic Type R, Mercedes A45 AMG, VW Golf R and the Renault Megane can compete in terms of price and features. The latest Megane has no chance of surviving our Malaysian market due to its price and brand image. The Golf R Mk7.5 has just arrived and its demand is rising despite its almost RM300k asking price.
This Focus RS is not even been given a chance to show its face in Malaysia and local brand guardians have decided not to introduce it as the previous Focus RS had very little demand and showroom excitement was completely lacking. So, for the few die-hard RS enthusiasts it’s a sad time and their only consolation is the gray market importer who could import in a used unit from England for them.
