Malaysian-Assembled Peugeots to Be Sold in Thailand

Peugeot has appointed Belfort Automobiles to be the exclusive importer and distributor of Peugeot cars in Thailand. Over the next two years, Peugeot will introduce 5 or 6 new models in the kingdom starting with the 3008 and 5008.

Peugeot was distributed by European Motor Cars Co in Thailand for nearly 50 years and will continue to provide aftersales support until the end August of this year.

Both the 3008 and 5008 are produced at the Naza Automotive Manufacturing (NAM) plant in Gurun, Kedah. The plant became a joint venture between Groupe PSA and Naza Corporation Holdings in February 2018 with Groupe PSA holding 61%. With this new deal inked, NAM will be able to produce 18,000 units this year for export to the Philippines, Thailand and local consumption.

Under the Asean free trade agreement, Malaysian made cars sold in Thailand will enjoy 0% customs duties.

Belfort Automobiles (Thailand) is a subsidiary of Master Group Corporation (Asia) Co., Ltd. Before Peugeot, the company currently distributes 7 other European and Japanese brands, none of which fall under the Groupe PSA umbrella.
