New Toyota Fortuner Legender Goes Off-Roading in Thailand

The Toyota Fortuner has been the passenger-friendly SUV of choice in Thailand, with success over two generations now. The facelift model was announced earlier this year for the Thai market, where it is built. We know that with this facelift, Toyota Motor Thailand are bringing in a new, range-topping ‘Legender’ variant and yesterday we got photographs of a convoy of them driving around in the mud.

As announced, the Fortuner Legender is available to customers in Thailand starting this month, hence these photos are probably from the media drives that are happening there.

The Fortuner Legender adds quite a bit of kit to the off-roader. It has got a slightly more aerodynamic shape and a sharper design language overall. Most apparent are the unique rear bumper, front grille, LED Daytime Running Light pattern shape and two-tone appearance, but there’s more to it than that. It also gets LED headlights (High beams, Bi-LED Projectors for low beams) and LED sequential turn signals.

The 20″ alloy rims are also made specially for the Fortuner Legender spec.

The Fortuner Legender also stands out mechanically. A new 2.8-litre “Super Power” turbodiesel is only available on the Fortuner Legender spec and it comes with 15% better performance than before. Maximum output on this engine is 204PS and it has a Sport Mode function for more dynamism. A balance shaft has also been added to this engine for better engine noise and vibration dampening characteristics.

The Fortuner Legender is also available with the 2.4-litre turbodiesel. Both the 2.4L and 2.8L come with 6-speed conventional automatic gearboxes and can be optioned with 4WD systems.

The Fortuner Legender also gets Toyota Safety Sense, 360-degree camera with 3D visuals, a Wireless Charger and handsfree tailgate. Apple Carplay is also a feature on this Fortuner’s infotainment system.

In Thailand, the entry level Fortuner 2.4G (THB1,319,000) is about 39% more expensive than the top spec Fortuner Legender 2.8L 4X4 (THB1,839,000).

Here’s the press release with more.
