Mercedes-Maybach Sound System Explained

What it takes to provide the space for audio enjoyment.

Launched just a few months ago on the 19th of November 2020, this is the ultimate luxury Mercedes you can buy. Well, not yet for Malaysia as this luxury saloon has not yet been launched for Malaysians. With numerous features to rival the best Bentley and Rolls Royce has to offer to the super rich, Mercedes engineers have put together a product of exceptional quality to move super luxury buyers in their direction.

Let’s start with cabin finesse. The buyer wants a super silent cabin that does not allow any road noise to enter. The buyer also wants to listen to music at its finest level. For both these features to work in harmony, Mercedes engineers created a super well insulated cabin and got a premium sound system provider to install a unique system.

Mercedes-Maybach 2020

The Mercedes-Maybach S 600 is now known as the world’s quietest production saloon car and lets not forget it is the most luxurious, comprehensively-equipped and refined S-Class ever produced, and aims to set new benchmarks in passenger comfort. It combines sumptuous levels of lounging space with exceptional levels of connectivity and convenience equipment and it is powered by a whisper quiet 530hp 5,980cc biturbo V12 engine.

Extraordinarily quiet and low in vibrations

In the rear, the preceding model was the world’s quietest sedan when it was launched in 2015. The new Mercedes-Maybach offers even more acoustic comfort. The NVH (noise, vibrations, harshness) characteristics were tested in the technology center for acoustics and vibrations (TAS) in Sindelfingen and the Test and Technology Centre (PTZ) in Immendingen.

The new luxury sedan further improves the very good NVH performance of the new S-Class generation. Here, too, the rigidity of the body-shell is the basis for the outstanding noise and vibration comfort. Other S-Class features such as double sealing of the cable grommets passing through the firewall, generous firewall insulation and acoustic foam in certain sections of the body-shell have also been adopted.

The extended NVH measures in the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class mainly benefit the rear section. Additional absorbent foam is installed in the area of the rear wheel arches, for example, as these have a new cavity not shared by the brother models. The additional, fixed triangle windows in the C-pillars have thicker laminated glass, as they are in close proximity to the heads of rear passengers.

Mercedes-Maybach Sound System Rear Seats

Burmester® High-End 4D Surround Sound

30 speakers and eight exciters are included in the Burmester® high-end 430 D surround sound system. Two exciters are integrated into the backrest of each seat. Direct reproduction of the sound resonance in the seats adds another level to the three-dimensional listening experience – 4D sound. The perceived intensity of the sound can be individually adjusted for each seat. The music becomes even more emotional thanks to this feelable component. In addition to playing music, the 4D sound is used for an even more emotional function of ENERGIZING COMFORT (see corresponding chapter).

Speakers integrated into the front seats at ear level make an even further improved surround sound experience possible for all occupants. With the new drivertainment function, information from the infotainment system, e.g. navigation instructions and telephony, can be specifically directed to the driver’s seat. With sound personalisation, the user can easily adapt the sound system to suit personal listening preferences. The result is saved to a personal sound set and stored in the user profile.

Two amplifiers with a total output of 1750 watts power 37 separately processed output channels. Hybrid amplifier technology with digital signal processing, analogue filters and separate power supply ensure precise and highly dynamic sound reproduction. Alongside the acoustic attributes, features such as the extending tweeters in the mirror triangle or the lighting are another highlight of the high-end sound system.

The S-Class has the in-car communication function in combination with the two Burmester® sound systems. This function makes communication between the occupants more comfortable by amplifying speech and transmitting it from the speakers. In the new S-Class Saloon, amplified speech is supported in two directions, from the driver/front passenger to the rear passengers and vice versa.

The intelligent signal processing separates voice signals from surrounding noises. The voice signals are amplified, the surrounding noises suppressed. This voice amplification takes the interior noise level into account, and dynamically adapts the amplification of the voice signals.

Wait For The Launch

Now all you need to do is wait for its arrival and Malaysia, go for a rear seat test ride and enjoy the comfort and sound delivery in this new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class
