Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace Facelift Now In Malaysia

The 7-seater SUV lands on our shores with a fresh design and more equipment

The facelifted Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace has officially arrived in Malaysia, less than two years after the original model. The 7-seater SUV is offered in Elegance and R-Line 4MOTION variants, both assembled locally at Volkswagen Passenger Car Malaysia‘s plant in Pekan, Pahang, alongside the recently-launched Golf Mk8, Arteon and Passat.

Design-wise, the Tiguan Allspace sports a redesigned grille with an illuminated LED light strip, new bumper design, sleeker LED headlamps, IQ.Light LED taillights, ‘Tiguan’ lettering across the tailgate and the latest Volkswagen logo. The Elegance rolls on 18-inch Frankfurt alloy wheels, while the R-Line 4MOTION on 19-inch Valencia alloy wheels.

Inside, you’ll find a new generation 9.2-inch Discover Pro infotainment system fitted as standard in both variants. It supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice control and built-in navigation system, to name a few.

There’s also a new 11.7-inch Digital Cockpit instrument panel and a newly designed multifunction sports steering wheel that operates through haptic-touch buttons. Buttons and knobs for the air-conditioning panel have been similarly upgraded.

Elsewhere, the Tiguan Allspace comes with a 30-colour ambient lighting system, a 3-zone Climatronic air conditioning system and exclusive for the R-Line 4MOTION, a Harman Kardon 480-watt sound system with 10 speakers, 4 audio profiles and a surround mode.

Styling kit and equipment aside, the two variants can be distinguished by what’s under the bonnet. The Elegance is powered by a 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine with 150 PS and 250 Nm, and a six-speed DSG transmission that is tasked to drive the front wheels.

As the range-topping variant, the R-Line 4MOTION gets a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine that makes 220 PS and 350 Nm, a seven-speed DSG transmission and 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system. Driving mode selection is done via Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC), while the 4MOTION system also offers four additional modes, namely On-road, Off-road, Off-road Expert, and Snow. Progressive steering is also part of the package.

As for safety, Lane Assist and Driver Alert systems are standard for both models, whereas Hill-Descent Control is only present in the R-Line 4MOTION. Other features include six airbags (seven for the R-Line 4MOTION), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Brake Assist (BA), Multi-collision Brakes, Intelligent Crash Response System (ICRS), and Electronic Parking Brake (EPB).

With the current sales tax exemption, the facelifted Tiguan Allspace is priced at RM174,745.68 for the Elegance and RM219,443.59 for the R-Line 4MOTION.
