All-New Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Spotted Driving Outside Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia HQ

The 4th generation Mitsubishi Outlander was shown back in early 2021. Now in mid 2023 Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia might be interested in introducing it here.

The previous generation Mitsubishi Outlander was modest sales success. It occupied a pretty niche space at the time, offering 7 seats in the mid-sized SUV segment alongside the Nissan X-Trail. Even in the used market, the Outlander holds up pretty well in value. Unfortunately, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia has taken the Outlander off the market for some time now with no indication of whether the fourth generation model will make it to our shores.

Well, today I can confirm that the fourth generation Mitsubishi Outlander is on Malaysian soil. I know this because I saw it with my very eyes driving out of the Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia headquarters in Shah Alam.

The 4th generation Outlander I saw a white PHEV model with a Malaysian registration number. I can’t confirm anything else except that it looks like it had a sunroof equipped. This isn’t the first time Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia have imported an Outlander PHEV.

Back when the third generation 2.0L and 2.5L petrol models were being sold, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia actually had at least one PHEV model running around for the company’s top brass.

It didn’t make sense to introduce this model to the Malaysian public, but it did make sense for the company’s top man to have a high-spec Mitsubishi passenger SUV. So is that what has happened here as well? Quite likely.

The clues are as follows:

It was spotted with a proper Malaysian registration number instead of trade plates.

It didn’t have any form of camouflage on.

There isn’t much in the way of incentives for PHEVs and hybrids in Malaysia, which would put the Outlander PHEV at a massive pricing disadvantage over the new Proton X90.
