5th Gen Honda City Facelift To Launch In Malaysia In Q3 2023

The Honda City is getting an update in just a few months.

Honda Malaysia today confirmed that its best-selling model, the City, will be given a facelift in Q3 2023. This generation of the Honda City first entered out market in 2020 with the first ever RS e:HEV variant too. So far, they’ve sold nearly 70,000 units of this model, with 10,000 units being sold in the first half of 2023 alone.

The 5th generation City facelift was launched in Thailand earlier this month. It brings minor styling updates and a host of new equipment and features. While the City RS e:HEV model still uses the same powertrain as before, the model gets new bumpers which increase the car’s overall length. It is now 4,589mm in length (+36mm), while remaining 1,748mm in width and 1,467mm in height. The new City RS features a new Honeycomb Front Grille, a new Front Lower Grille, new Side Skirting, and a new Rear Diffuser. There’s also a redesigned “RS” emblem and 16″ dual tone rims. Inside, the combination leather/suede interior has been swapped out for leather/faux leather in Thailand and the same might happen here too.

Non hybrid models also get a minor design change in Thailand, but Honda Malaysia did not comment on these.

Honda Sensing has also been enhanced with the new City. It now features Low Speed Follow and Lead Car Departure Notification along with the rest of the Sensing features. It’s quite possible that the facelifted City will bring Sensing as standard across the City lineup. Here’s what the latest version of Sensing brings:

  1. Low Speed Follow (LSF)*New
  2. Lead Car Departure Notification (LCDN)*New
  3. Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
  4. Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
  5. Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)
  6. Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS)
  7. Road Departure Mitigation (RDM)
  8. Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
  9. Auto High Beam (AHB)

Honda Malaysia Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Hironobu Yoshimura said, “In 2020, Honda Malaysia launched the 5th Generation City to a very receptive market. That year, we also raised the bar for our best-selling model by introducing the City RS e:HEV for the first time. So far, more than 68,600 units of the 5th Generation City have been sold since its launch, while in the first half of 2023, we have sold more than 10,000 units. Truly, this iconic Honda model has proven to be a favourite in its segment amongst Malaysians.”
