Seiko 5 Sports Bruce Lee 55th Anniversary Edition Available In October 2023
Celebrate 55 years of the Seiko 5 Sports with this special Bruce Lee edition.
This year marks the 55th anniversary of the iconic Seiko 5 Sports – the mechanical watch that won the world’s respect by being very durable and accurate for its price point. The Seiko 5 Sports first debuted in 1968 and 55 years later is truly an icon. Seiko has been releasing limited edition collaborations throughout 2023 to celebrate this anniversary. We got to see an UltraSeven version and a Peanuts Limited Edition and now they’re preparing to launch a Bruce Lee Limited Edition model as the 7th celebratory timepiece this year.
This Seiko 5 Sports SRPK39 pays tribute to the legendary Hong Kong-American martial artist and film star Bruce Lee, who wore a Seiko 5 Sports during his lifetime. Bruce Lee founded Jeet Kune Do and became an internationally recognised icon with the smash hit The Big Boss, but passed away at the age of just 32 while filming Enter The Dragon in 1973.
The Seiko 5 Sports Bruce Lee Limited Edition features a picture of a dragon on its face. The mythical creature was a source of inspiration for Bruce Lee throughout his lifetime. The bezel features characters that represent the spirit of Jeet Kune Do with a phrase that translates to “Using no way as way; having no limitation as limitation”.
Seiko are packaging the SRPK39 with two strap options – a black leather strap with silver stitching is meant to reflect the clothing worn in kung fu. The inside of this strap features a dragon design as well. There’s also an additional yellow nylon strap meant to look like Bruce Lee’s iconic tracksuit.
At the heart of this timepiece is the proven and reliable Caliber 4R36. The watch is engineered for 10 bar of water resistance, has a Hardlex crystal glass and a stainless stell case with black hard coating to enhance durability. The back of the case features another Jeet Kune Do core symbol with the serial number. The watch comes in a specially designed box with Lee’s signature. It will be available in October 2023 at participating Seiko Boutiques and retail stores with just 15,000 pieces being made worldwide.
