Three New Seiko Prospex Watches Added On 60th Anniversary Of Seiko’s 1st Diver’s Watch

The Seiko Prospex Collection for 2025 arrives on the 60th anniversary of Seiko’s 1st diver’s watch.

In a significant milestone for diving watch enthusiasts, Seiko is set to commemorate the 60th anniversary of its first diver’s watch with three exceptional new timepieces in the Prospex collection. Since creating Japan’s first diver’s watch in 1965, Seiko has established itself as an innovator in underwater timekeeping, continuously advancing the standards for safety, reliability, and performance.

The standout piece of the anniversary collection is a new Marinemaster model equipped with the newly developed Caliber 8L45 movement. This flagship timepiece honors Seiko’s heritage by combining design elements from their iconic 1968 diver’s watch with construction techniques inspired by their groundbreaking 1975 model. The Caliber 8L45 represents Seiko’s mechanical watchmaking at its finest, featuring their proprietary Spron alloy that delivers exceptional resistance to breakage, rust, and wear—crucial qualities for harsh underwater environments.

This limited-edition Marinemaster, restricted to just 600 pieces worldwide, boasts impressive specifications including a one-piece titanium case that ensures water resistance to 600 meters, making it suitable for professional saturation diving. The dial features an innovative blue gradient texture that deepens toward the edges, evoking the mysterious beauty of the deep sea. Technical innovations include indexes that are molded as part of the dial for enhanced durability and a specially developed L-shaped gasket that eliminates the need for a helium escape valve.

Complementing the Marinemaster are two additional anniversary models powered by Seiko’s reliable 6R-series movements. The silver-dialed SPB511 pays homage to the original 1965 diver’s watch and features the Caliber 6R55, while the blue-dialed SPB509 draws inspiration from the 1968 model and includes a GMT function powered by Caliber 6R54. Both watches offer improved water resistance of 300 meters and feature an innovative adjustable clasp system that allows for 15mm of adjustment in six increments—ideal for accommodating changes in wrist size during diving conditions.

The anniversary collection also highlights Seiko’s ongoing partnership with the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC), with the Marinemaster model set to be part of JAMSTEC’s Arctic research program in 2025. This collaboration continues a tradition dating back to 1983, when Seiko watches were successfully tested on the Shinkai 2000 research submersible, and later in 2014, when both automatic and quartz models performed flawlessly at depths exceeding 3,000 meters on the Kaiko 7000 II.

Availability begins in June 2025 for the 6R-powered models (limited to 6,000 pieces each), with the flagship Marinemaster releasing in July 2025. All watches will be available through Seiko Boutiques and select retail partners worldwide, offering collectors and diving enthusiasts alike the opportunity to own a piece of Seiko’s storied underwater heritage as it marks six decades of innovation in diver’s watchmaking.
