Audi Expands A6 Lineup with Powerful New Plug-In Hybrid Models

Audi A6 returns for a 6th generation. The sedan and avant bodystyles make the debut.

Audi has unveiled two new plug-in hybrid variants of its flagship A6 lineup—the A6 Avant e-hybrid quattro and the A6 Sedan e-hybrid quattro—offering enhanced electric range. Available in two power levels, these advanced hybrids cater to drivers who demand efficiency without sacrificing dynamic driving.

At the core of the new A6 e-hybrid models is a 2.0 TFSI petrol engine paired with an electric motor delivering up to 105 kW. Customers can choose between total system outputs of 220 kW and 450 Nm or 270 kW and 500 Nm. The more powerful variants accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.3 seconds, while the 220 kW models reach the mark in 6.0 seconds. All configurations boast a top speed of 250 km/h.

A key upgrade lies in the new high-voltage battery, now offering 25.9 kWh gross (20.7 kWh net) capacity—a 45% increase over the previous generation. This enables pure electric driving for over 100 kilometers, giving drivers a longer, quieter, and more eco-friendly daily commute. Charging is now more convenient, too, with 11 kW AC charging cutting full recharge time to just 2.5 hours.

Both the A6 Sedan and Avant retain their premium Audi DNA. The A6 Sedan e-hybrid features a sleek silhouette with an elegant window curve, while the Avant e-hybrid adds visual dynamism with a sculpted rear and sporty roof spoiler. Distinctive rear lights and high-mounted Audi rings reinforce their commanding presence.

The A6 e-hybrid quattro models are more than just efficient—they’re smart. The hybrid management system intelligently switches between “EV” and “Hybrid” driving modes based on route data and user preferences. Drivers can adjust thrust recuperation via steering paddles, helping to extend electric range and energy recovery during deceleration. Even without active navigation, the vehicle can optimize energy recuperation based on predictive driving inputs.

To complement their powertrains, the A6 hybrids come standard with quattro ultra all-wheel drive, electrified dual-clutch transmission, and all-wheel steering, enhancing both agility at low speeds and stability at higher speeds. Improved sound insulation—up to 30% quieter than previous models—further elevates in-cabin comfort.

German customers can order starting May 8, 2025, with initial deliveries scheduled for summer 2025. The real mystery is whether Audi Malaysia will see fit to introduce these models as part of its new CKD programme.
