Used Lamborghini Gallardo is a very fast supercar that is hard to ignore
Yes, you probably will not believe this asking price until we shared this information here. Imagine a supercar from Italy that was sold NEW from about RM1.5 million some 16 years ago is now in our used car market at about 20 percent of its original price.
Yes, this is the power of depreciation and it hits every common car from a basic city car to a supercar that is mass produced.
A rare limited edition Italian supercar will hold its value over decade or more and classic supercars will rise in value (sometimes even 5 times more of its original price) but only a selected few can afford limited edition supercars.
This is exotic machine however is not a limited edition and in fact many were built and sold and later even imported in to Malaysia via private AP holders.
If you find a used Gallardo from the authorized Lamborghini Kuala Lumpur (JHItalia was the earlier importer) dealer on sale, it should be worth more (even better if it a one owner car), but at the time, not many were sold and it was private importers who brought in this exotic machine.
Today, there are dozens on sale in our used car classifieds, mostly with low mileage (30k to 60k) as owners do not use this supercar for daily commuting. But they should!
This unit came to our attention as a reader wanted to buy it and wanted our input on its value. Well, the asking price is very tempting as it is about 20 percent of its new car price back in 2009.
Most supercar owners look after their possession and if it is a single owner car, even better as the first owner would have been a person of financial means which means maintenance would have been done properly.
2nd or 3rd owners in the past 3 to 5 years would have done less for their cars as the asking price was near the price of a German ‘M’ or ‘AMG’ car.
Check the history closely. If no service records are presented, then walk away as these cars must be looked after properly to avoid VERY COSTLY repairs.
The closest rival will be an Audi R8 V10 which can be bought for about RM50k or so lower. The R8 has identical mechanicals and power delivery, but this Gallardo has much more curbside attention.
Do not be taken by fancy spoilers or aftermarket add on bits. This just means the car has been abused or driven hard. You want a unit that looks as original as the showroom unit 16 years ago.
Can you live with it daily? Yes, if you live with the high fuel sipping and servicing costs. But its well worth the investment over a high revving sports sedan in the same price bracket.
If you need to know, the yearly Malaysian road tax will be about RM11,130.00 and yearly insurance will be about 10k give or take your no claim bonus and perils. So, yearly ownership starts at about RM21k and we would estimate RM30k or so a year for preventive maintenance if driven often.
Take note that this Gallardo will not depreciate much over the next 4-5 years as RM300k is already a low price. (estimated new selling price was RM1.5million)
