The MG 07 is the latest ‘sedan’ fastback for the Chinese market and it comes in two powertrain options.
A new MG model called the 07 has officially been listed in China’s latest new energy vehicle purchase tax exemption catalog, revealing certified driving ranges that reach up to 650 km. According to tracking data from Autohome, the fastback sedan’s core technical specifications have been formally registered with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
Powertrain Options and Battery Performance
Buyers will be able to choose between full battery-electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains tailored to different driving requirements:
- Pure Electric Variant: Outfitted with a 67 kWh battery pack that offers an operating range of either 610 km or 650 km under the CLTC testing cycle. Propulsion is delivered via a rear-mounted electric motor built by the Shanghai Automotive Gearbox Company, pushing out a peak output of 176 kW.
- Plug-In Hybrid Variant: Pairs an 82 kW 1.5-litre naturally aspirated gasoline engine with a 152 kW electric drive motor. Supported by a 30 kWh battery pack, the PHEV setup achieves an all-electric driving range of 185 km under strict WLTC testing standards.
Next-Generation Smart Driving Architecture
A key highlight of the fastback’s technology tree is its roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, which serves as the primary anchor for its advanced driver assistance hardware array. The MG 07 stands as the first sedan in the brand’s portfolio to implement the innovative Momenta R7 smart driving framework, which runs on a high-computing X7 application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC).
This intelligent software architecture leverages an advanced world model system to evaluate and calculate localized driving variables in real-time. By integrating this highly responsive autonomous framework, the automaker is well-positioned to field a competitive, domestic alternative to international self-driving software options.
Sleek Aerodynamics and Morello Purple Aesthetics
Visually, the vehicle is characterized by a sweeping fastback silhouette where the rear window transitions seamlessly into a dramatic panoramic glass roof. The aggressive front fascia features distinctive C-shaped headlight clusters with multi-focal lighting elements, positioned directly above an expansive, full-width lower cooling vent.
To optimize aerodynamic efficiency, the exterior layout incorporates clean, semi-flush door handles alongside model-exclusive alloy wheels. Highlighting its tapered rear styling and sporty character, the new sedan will make its official debut wearing a unique Morello Purple paint finish.
