Porsche Crashes Into Penang Hotel Lobby After Unintended Acceleration

An afternoon of relaxation turned into a chaotic scene on Penang’s popular Gurney Drive waterfront after Porsche was driven into a hotel lobby.

Just weeks after a Zeekr 7X was driven in to a restaurant, a Porsche 911 gets driven into a hotel lobby. According to official police statements, an elderly woman accidentally stepped on her vehicle’s accelerator pedal while maneuvering her grey Porsche, sending the high-powered sports car careening out of control and straight into the building’s central lobby area. Images and video footage of the unusual accident quickly went viral across Malaysian social media platforms, showing the vehicle resting completely inside the shattered entrance.

No Casualties Reported Following Lobby Crash

The incident occurred in the morning along Persiaran Gurney. Despite the significant property damage to the hotel’s glass facade and structural fixtures, authorities confirmed that no staff members, guests, or bystanders were struck or injured by the incoming car.

National news agency BERNAMA reported on the timeline and immediate response details provided by local investigators:

“Northeast District Police Chief ACP Abdul Rozak Muhammad said that the police received a report regarding the incident from the 61-year-old local woman at 12:05 pm and investigations revealed that the accident occurred at around 11:15 am.

‘The incident happened as the senior citizen was preparing to head home after visiting family members. No casualties were reported, and the estimated losses are still under investigation,’ he said in a statement today.”

Police Investigate Incident Under Section 43

Following initial physical inspections of the scene and driver interviews, the Northeast District Police headquarters confirmed that the matter is being handled through standard traffic legal frameworks rather than as a criminal act.

The case is officially being investigated under Section 43 of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers offences related to careless and inconsiderate driving. Under this section, individuals found guilty of driving without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration for other persons using the road face statutory fines and potential driving record penalties.

Asset management teams at the hotel have closed off the impacted lobby section to begin removing the glass debris, while insurance adjusters work to calculate the total cost of the structural damages.
