The Denza Z9 may have just launched in Malaysia, but a new compact variant is now coming to China.
Official images have just been posted online of the Denza Z9S, which is said to be a range-focused ‘little brother’ to the Denza Z9 and Z9 GT. This model is explicitly designed to take the competition to the Xiaomi SU7, an EV that has taken the world by storm thanks to its incredible performance & range numbers and affordable price.
Compared to the luxury flagship Denza Z9 GT was just launched in Malaysia at RM358,800, the Denza Z9S is aimed at executive buyers looking for something more affordable and easier to manoeuvre on smaller roads. While the price of this new product has yet to be revealed, some dimensions have been shared and it’s very apparent that the Z9S is a smaller car. The bumper-to-bumper length is 9cm shorter and the wheelbase is a whole 10cm shorter versus the Z9 GT we have here.
One area where the new model will lose out on is all-out performance. To be honest, most flagship EVs are TOO powerful – and the Z9 GT is no exception with 1,156 horsepower and 1,210 Nm of torque on tap via its e³ tri-motor AWD platform. Nobody needs to go from 0-100km/h in 2.7 seconds, as impressive as that sounds on paper. The Z9S goes for a more conservative RWD set-up with just a single motor delivering 435 PS on the base model and up to 503 PS on the higher tier model. Those numbers are still plenty impressive and for now, these are the only options coming for the Z9S.
While the Z9 GT uses a 122.5kWh battery, its CLTC range is about 820KM. The Z9S gives you a smaller 102.3kWh battery but its CLTC range is 920km.
Besides that the Z9S looks like a younger sibling to the Z9 GT with the familiar dual tier split lighting setup. The biggest differences seem to be fixed door handles and door mounted side-mirrors.
