The GWM Haval Raptor is a true petrol powered SUV in a world of EVs
On 27 May, GWM officially introduced the internal combustion engine (ICE) version of its Haval Raptor SUV. This gasoline-powered variant comes in two trims, either the 2.0T 4WD Pro, priced at 156,900 yuan (approximately 22,000 USD) or the 2.0T 4WD Ultra, priced at 166,900 yuan (around 23,200 USD).

Until now, only the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version was available, which ranged from 165,800 to 192,800 yuan (22,800 to 26,500 USD). The new ICE version is available in two body styles, namely one with an externally mounted spare tire (measuring 4800/1950/1843mm) and another with an external storage box (4680/1950/1843 mm).
Moreover, both share a 2738mm wheelbase and offer tire options of 245/60 R18 or 255/60 R19. Exterior color choices include green, two shades of gray, black and white. The overall design preserves the PHEV’s rugged boxy shape, with traditional door handles and roof racks. It also features a redesigned front grille with vertical elements and rectangular headlights.

At the rear, vertical taillights utilize 300 red LEDs at 628nm. Built for off-road performance, the Haval Raptor boasts a 25° approach angle, 32° departure angle, 223 mm ground clearance (unladen), a wading depth of up to 580 mm, and a towing capacity of 1,600 kg. Under the hood is a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine making an impressive 235hp and 385Nm of torque.
On top of that, it is paired with a 9-speed DCT and features an intelligent all-wheel-drive system with a rear electronically controlled mechanical differential lock. Fuel consumption is rated at 8.65 L/100 km (WLTC), with a century sprint time of 8.1 seconds. The Haval Raptor supports nine driving modes for various terrain conditions.

Inside, the cabin receives a minor refresh, featuring a new flat-bottom steering wheel, a 12.3-inch LCD instrument cluster, and a 14.6-inch central touchscreen. The bulky gear lever has been removed, giving way to a simplified center console. GWM’s Coffee OS 3.0 powers the infotainment system, enhanced with a 10-speaker Coffee AI Sound setup.
The GWM Haval Raptor includes Level 2 driving assistance, such as automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and traffic sign recognition. Cargo space starts at 586 liters and expands to 1,404 liters with the rear seats folded. The rear external box adds 2.7 liters of storage, and strap-style cup holders are included on all doors. So will we see it in Malaysia?
