Car Photography: How To Take Better Photos Of Your Car

Photography for your own collection or for selling your car online.

Malaysia’s used car industry is booming, demonstrating a historic 100 percent growth in 2020. If you’re looking to sell your used car, good photography is essential to attract buyers and achieve the right price when posting your car online for sale. Fortunately, taking great photos is a fairly simple job that can even speed up the process of selling your car.

Don’t use a professional photographer

There’s no need to hire a professional photographer to take your photos. In fact, professional car photos often look like stock images, which deters buyers who want to be sure they’re seeing the real car for sale. While you can take decent pictures with a camera phone, using a basic camera kit will help you more easily snap sharp and clear images. For example, a DSLR camera has powerful sensors and megapixels to create stunning, professional-looking images. Additionally, a versatile and high-quality lens kit will give you the zoom capabilities needed for precise shots. You may also want to invest in a tripod for better stability and clearer images.

Capture every angle

The more details you’re able to show potential buyers, the better. So be sure to take photos of your car from every angle, including both side views, front straight-on, back straight-on, and each corner of the car. If you’re selling a pickup truck, give buyers the opportunity to see into the bed by photographing it from above. Also take close-ups of one of the wheels (particularly if they’re alloys) as well as any existing damage. Engine shots aren’t usually needed — only take them if yours is particularly clean, interesting, or unique. Do not forget to get clear pictures of your interior which is important for many buyers. Interior wear is becoming an issue for many used car buyers as cars from the last 10 years or so do not wear well in our weather.

Get the lighting right

Lighting is everything when it comes to creating clear and attention-grabbing photos. Avoid photographing your car in the middle of the day: the sun will wash out all the details and color you want to be visible, and result in unattractive pictures. Ideally, you want to take the photos roughly either thirty minutes after sunrise or one hour prior to sunset. The soft lighting during these time frames will result in a crisper image. You may also find you need to move the car around to get the best lighting, devoid of any shadow.

Background

WE think it is important to have an attractive background. This makes all the difference when your cars color is rather plain or drab. For example, a silver, black or plain white car will look more attractive with a colorful background. A brightly coloured vehicle (like in this picture below) does not need a much effort. Any ‘interesting’ background will do.

Hope this helps you to make a better sale and standout in the many used cars for sale in our online classifieds right now.

Taking clear photos of your car doesn’t have to be complicated, and it is well worth the effort. With these simple photography tips, you’ll be able to attract more buyers in a quicker time frame and get the right price.
