Mitsubishi Xpander Remains Best Seller Despite Rivals

The Mitsubishi Xpander is the best seller in many ASEAN countries too

Since it’s debut the Mitsubishi Xpander 7-seater MPV has been a game changer and it has been a very important car in the ASEAN market. This is proven by the fact that the car has been a best selling MPV in not just Malaysia, but also Vietnam, Philippines and Thailand as well.

There are many reasons for this car’s success and today we will explore some of these reasons. The main reason is that if you could only have one car for your family, the Mitsubishi Xpander is pretty much the best option as it does almost everything quite well and it is relatively affordable.

Being the best selling non-national MPV in Malaysia, the Mitsubishi Xpander is quite fuel efficient. Equipped with a 1.5 litre 4 cylinder petrol engine which produces 105Ps of power and 141Nm of torque and manages a claimed 8.9km/l fuel efficiency. This makes it a popular vehicle among all demographics since fuel is not cheap.

Moreover, the Mitsubishi Xpander just looks so good, with Mitsubishi’s signature dynamic shield front grille and a unique sharp headlight design, this car looks like nothing else on the road, especially for a family MPV which typically looks boxy, boring and doesn’t grab any attention but this car sure does stand out.

On top of that, the Mitsubishi Xpander has a longer wheelbase than most of its competitors but still looks very compact on the outside. In fact, it is very convenient for city driving as the turning radius is not too big and it can be easily parked since it is not actually very big either. Plus the second and third row seats can fold fully flat.

However, on the inside, it is actually very comfortable and can easily fit 7 adults with luggage room to spare, perhaps the people in the third row may not be as comfortable but it is still definitely doable. Add to that the addition of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and you have yourself a spec king in the segment.

Lastly, Malaysia is the third country after Indonesia and Vietnam to locally assemble the Mitsubishi Xpander and our Xpanders are built in Pekan so being a CKD car, the Xpander is relatively cheap, especially compared to its main rivals the Honda BR-V and Toyota Rush.
