New Year, New Logo And Website For Geely Auto
To mark the new year, Geely Auto has shown a redesigned logo and an updated website.
2022 was a very exciting year for Geely Auto. By the end of the first half of the year, the company’s EV sales alone had gone up by 520% year-on-year! They also bought a sizeable chunk of Aston Martin Lagonda – a brand with over a century of automotive legacy on its resume. For 2023, they’re already planning big things across the board including the introduction of a new brand with Baidu called JIDU (their Robo-01 electric SUV was recently shown). They’re also seeking a US$1 billion IPO for their all-electric subsidiary Zeekr. However, the company’s first real announcement for 2023 comes in the form of a new logo.
The new Geely Logo is a simplified and ‘flatter’ take on the outgoing logo. It still features the same grille/shield outline. However, instead of being all skeuomorphic and colourful, the new logo is presented as in completely 2-dimensional form in white with a light blue background. The company publicized the new logo 2 days ago on their facebook page with a video with the following text:
“Today is the day! A brand new journey begins with the upgraded Geely logo which signifies our all-new brand aspiration to be more open and unlimited in the future.
The renewal of the logo will be our first step to pursuing smarter and more technological products for our customers.
Our new chapter starts here! Let’s expect how it will shine and light up the future! “
This would be Geely Auto’s fourth logo change since 1998. The first logo was around with a dark blue outer ring and a light blue centre. A graphic of a white mountain with the ‘GEELY’ wordmark on top. This logo stayed around until 2014 with the Emgrand logo being developed for a specific model in 2008.
This logo set up the groundwork for the Geely logo we know today with the chequered shield. Between 2014 and 2019, Geely used this chequered shield logo with a gold outline.
The design was updated in 2019 with a silver outline and it was lengthened too. It’s unclear of the new logo will be applied to all new vehicles or just on press material.
The company also released a refreshed website to go along with the new logo. The new website is designed to work effortlessly on tablets, smartphones and desktops.
