King Seiko VANAC Returns: A Legendary Design Reimagined for 2025

Just 700 pieces of the re-imagine King Seiko VANAC will be made.

After more than five decades, the iconic King Seiko VANAC is making a triumphant return to the horological world. Originally launched in 1972 as a bold departure from King Seiko’s classic designs, the VANAC series was known for its bright colors and innovative, multifaceted approach. Now, in 2025, this legendary timepiece is being reborn with modern technology while maintaining the distinctive spirit that made the original so coveted by collectors.

The new VANAC collection draws inspiration from the Tokyo horizon—a fitting tribute to the city where King Seiko was born. The collection’s aesthetic captures different moments of the Tokyo skyline: twilight purple, midnight navy, sunrise silver, golden sunrise for the limited edition, and ice-blue for the boutique exclusive model reflecting a clear daytime sky.

What immediately stands out about the new VANAC is its angular, sculptural case design that appears to be carved from a single block of metal. Despite this bold presence, the bezel-less design creates an elegant, slim profile on the wrist. The newly developed bracelet combines mirror and hairline finishing, delivering both comfort and luxury.

The dial features a distinctive horizontal stripe pattern with indexes set in a dedicated embedded ring. Design enthusiasts will appreciate the subtle nod to the collection’s heritage with the striking “V” silhouette that appears both at the 12 o’clock index and on the seconds hand counterweight.

Powering these new timepieces is Seiko’s latest addition to their 8L movement platform: Caliber 8L45. This automatic movement achieves an impressive 72-hour power reserve and maintains accuracy between +10 and -5 seconds per day. For the first time since King Seiko’s relaunch in 2022, wearers can admire the movement’s beautiful finishing through a sapphire crystal case back.

The core collection will include three models (SLA083, SLA085, and SLA087) that will join the main King Seiko line. Additionally, a limited edition of 700 pieces (SLA089) featuring a golden dial will be available at select locations, while a boutique-exclusive ice-blue model (SLA091) will be offered solely through official Seiko boutiques worldwide.

All models share the same robust specifications: 41mm stainless steel cases with a thickness of 14.3mm, box-shaped sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, water resistance to 10 bar, and magnetic resistance of 4,800 A/m.

The technical excellence of these timepieces is matched by their aesthetic versatility. Whether capturing the deep purple of evening twilight, the mysterious navy of midnight, or the hopeful silver and gold tones of sunrise, each watch offers a distinct interpretation of Tokyo’s iconic skyline.

Watch enthusiasts and collectors will have to wait until July 2025 when the new King Seiko VANAC collection becomes available at Seiko Boutiques and select retail partners worldwide.
