Chery Malaysia successfully conducted its inaugural Chery Super Hybrid Battery Safety Challenge in Serdang on 15 April 2026.
To prove the safety standards of their PHEV batteries, Chery Malaysia conducted a live demonstration involving setting them on fire. The live demonstration focused on the battery systems used in both the Chery TIGGO 7 PHEV and Chery TIGGO 8 PHEV. Witnessed by over 100 attendees, including government officials and media representatives, the battery was subjected to a rigorous high-temperature test.

The challenge involved a preheating phase followed by 1 minute and 20 seconds of direct flame exposure. Despite the extreme heat, the battery remained stable throughout the session, showing no signs of fire escalation, electrical failure, or uncontrolled deformation. This public validation reflects Chery’s commitment to demonstrating safety performance in open, real-world settings rather than just laboratory environments.

Global Rigour: Validating Battery Integrity
The Malaysian fire challenge is part of a broader global safety programme where Chery subjects its battery systems to extreme scenarios across various markets. Other stringent tests conducted worldwide include:
- Structural Impact: Spiral rollover and head-on collision tests in China.
- Environmental Exposure: Seawater immersion for 53 hours in Indonesia and burial in scorching desert dunes in Kuwait.
- Unconventional Stress: A multi-angle live-fire test in Ecuador where the battery was penetrated by six rounds of ammunition.
- Underbody Protection: Battery scraping and abrasion tests conducted in Mexico.

Proven Safety and Long-Term Assurance
Beyond extreme testing, Chery’s electrified lineup has already proven its safety credentials through official channels. The Chery TIGGO 7 PHEV recently achieved a 5-Star ASEAN NCAP rating with a record-high score of 94.68 points. Notably, it is the only plug-in hybrid to secure a “double perfect score” in both Adult Occupant Protection and Safety Assist.

To further support long-term ownership confidence, Chery Malaysia offers an extended battery warranty of up to 10 years or 200,000 kilometres. This comprehensive coverage includes the battery power pack, drive motor, and vehicle control unit, ensuring that Malaysian drivers have full peace of mind throughout their ownership journey.
