Volkswagen Tavendor Unveiled In China
Sales for this China only SUV are expected to start at the end of the year
FAW Group has a joint venture with Volkswagen Group in China which resulted in the brand FAW-Volkswagen and on 29 August 2022, the brand unveiled its new, gorgeous five-seater SUV, the Volkswagen Tavendor.
The Volkswagen Tavendor is also called the Lan Xun in Chinese and is a mid-sized SUV built on Volkswagen’s MQB platform. The brand expects the SUV will launch at the end of 2022 and will come in two looks, the regular and R-Line version, the latter of which will have a sportier look with the R-Line kit.
On top of that, the Volkswagen Tavendor has a unique feature which makes it the first Volkswagen model to feature it, exterior ambient lighting. Yup, there will be lighting elements all around the exterior of the car including an illuminated “Vw” logo on the front grille and rear of the car, fender light strips, roof racks and door handles.
Another unique feature on the Volkswagen Tavendor is its through type intakes on the front grille which blends seamlessly in with the headlights which feature L-shaped LED DRLs and this design element is mimicked on the front bumper with the intakes blending with the fog lamps.
The Volkswagen Tavendor also has a wide stance which gives it a butch look and looks very appealing from all angles thanks its short front and rear overhangs. The lighting all across the car also benefits from the all black floating roof design and blacked out roof rails which help the lights stand out.
The interior is simple and minimalist with a large centre console with very few buttons and a small shifter and your typical Volkswagen three-spoke steering wheel with a 10.25-inch digital driver display and 12-inch infotainment screen in the middle. The entire dashboard curves dramatically to the driver and I don’t particularly like that.
The Volkswagen Tavendor is 4,936mm in length, 2,015mm in width and 1,756/1767mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,980mm so clearly, it will be spacious enough and comfortable for 4 adults or 2 adults and 3 kids even for long distance drives. The seating configuration is adjustable to further improve space.
At the heart of the Volkswagen Tavendor will be a 2.0 turbocharged inline 4 cylinder engine, mated to a 7-speed wet dual clutch gearbox transmission. which will put out 163 or 137kW of power and can be had in either a two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive option.
