Proton X50 Now Being Sold In Trinidad And Tobago

PROTON expands its global reach with the market debut of the X50 in Trinidad and Tobago.

PROTON has officially expanded the global footprint of its best-selling B-segment SUV, the PROTON X50, by launching it in Trinidad and Tobago. This milestone marks the model’s second major export market entry of the year, following its successful debut in Brunei in January.

The launch, hosted by local distributor ANSA Motors, underscores PROTON’s growing export ambitions and its commitment to strengthening its presence within the Caribbean region.

Refined Performance and Efficiency

The All-New PROTON X50 is engineered to deliver an engaging and refined driving experience for both urban and highway conditions. Key technical specifications for the model include:

  • Engine: A 1.5-litre i-GT turbocharged engine.
  • Output: Generates 181 PS of power and 290 Nm of torque.
  • Transmission: Paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
  • Fuel Efficiency: Achieves a fuel consumption rating of just 6.1L/100km.

Modern Design and Intelligent Safety

The updated model features a refreshed exterior design with sharper lines and a more commanding stance. Inside, the cabin offers a technology-focused environment anchored by an upgraded infotainment system designed to enhance driver interaction and connectivity.

Safety remains a core pillar for the X50, which utilizes intelligent mobility features to protect passengers. The suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) includes:

  • 360-degree camera for enhanced visibility.
  • Intelligent Parking Assist.
  • A comprehensive array of safety technologies aimed at improving driver awareness.

Strategic Importance of the Caribbean Market

According to Marc Pontifex, General Manager of New Vehicle Sales at ANSA Motors, the X50 offers a premium driving experience at a competitive price point, making advanced automotive technology accessible to a wider range of drivers in Trinidad and Tobago.

The arrival of the X50 reinforces PROTON’s commitment to building global momentum for its export business. In 2025, PROTON achieved its highest export sales volume since its partnership with Geely began, reaching 6,000 units. Edmund Lim Meng Thong, CEO of Proton International Corporation Sdn Bhd (PICSB), emphasized that Trinidad and Tobago plays a vital role in the company’s broader strategy to increase export volumes across multiple regions throughout 2026.
